Martin “Novacal ” is a West Coast emcee that might be new to you, but when you hear his music you will think he’s a veteran. Born in Los Angeles, California in 1983. Martin knew in his adolescent years he would one day become a emcee. With that in mind Martin’s passion for music forced him to miss out on other opportunities to make money in other fields. Martin decided to quit an above average paying job for his love for music.

Novacal’s music influences as a young man came from multiple genres of music, for instance R&B, Jazz, Classical, and even Alternative Rock, Hip Hop was always Novacal’s leading favorite. Hip Hop influenced “Novacal” with many different styles, mainly the love for superior lyrics flow and word play is what he gravitated to the most. Some of Novacal’s favorite artist are Ice Cube, Nas, Gangstarr, 2Pac, Lupe Fiasco to name a few.

Novacal attempted to be apart of a few “Hip Hop,” groups in the past, dealing with different people not really loyal to him or themselves, and not dedicated to the music as he is, Novacal decided that being solo artist was his best option for his music career. With that being said Martin aka Novacal will collab with his peers and is an honorary member of the The Kushites. Pushing through all the doubters and haters his album is soon to be released under his own independent label, Grey Space ™ and other partners and affiliates. What Is SCD? Pain Management Sickle Cell Anemia via WebMD

The experts say that diagnosis and prevention of complications is highly important in sickle cell disease treatment. The objectives of treatment are to prevent organ damage including strokes, prevent infection, and treat symptoms. Treatment may include:

Pain medications: This is for sickle cell crises

Hydration: Drink plenty of water, recommended 8-10 glasses a day. In emergency situations intravenous fluids are provided in the hospital for SCD patients. (Pain crisis)

Blood Transfusions: Prevention of potential anemia and or even strokes.

Hydroxyurea: An optional medication, has recently been found to help reduce the frequency of pain crises and acute chest syndrome. It may also help decrease the need for frequent blood transfusions. Long term effects of Hydroxyurea drug are unknown to date.

Vaccinations & Antibiotics : Given to the SCD carrier to prevent infections.

Folic Acid: Help with serve anemia.

Regular eye exams
Screening for associated retinopathy.

Bone Marrow Transplant: Depending on the severity of the disease, this procedure has been effective in helping cure some people with SCD. Bone Marrow Transplantation would be best discussed with your Doctor, and recommended to only done at centers that specialize in stem cell transplantation. (FYI)

There are many types. The two most common are sickle cell anemia (SS disease) and sickle “C” disease (SC disease). Sickle beta thalassemia disease (S beta thal disease) is another type, but is less common.

Is the sickle cell trait the same has having sickle cell disease? No

Explanation:
When a person carries the Sickle cell trait, red blood cells are healthy, shaped normal, and circular. The normal blood cells flow easily through the small blood vessels. The Sickle cell trait is not know to cause a shorter life or even change into the disease.

Sickle cell disease has the opposite affects on the person. SCD cause mild to severe symptoms. On going medical treatment, emergency visits, and follow ups. Is present at birth and can never be outgrown. Many lead long and full lives. A person with SCD tend to have abnormal lower levels of red blood cells which can result in anemia. Red blood cells become hard and sticky “Sickle,” shaped which causes the sickle blood cells difficulties when travel through the small blood vessels. When the sickle blood cells clogs the vessels, the oxygen is not properly delivered to tissue resulting in pain and even damage to these areas.

The combination of two parents carrying the Sickle cell trait, has a chance of producing a child affected with (SCD)
